책을 조각한 놀라운 작품들

미국의 현대 예술가 Brian Dettmer 의 무한한 상상력에 강한 충격을 받았습니다.

1974년에 출생한 그는 시간이 많이 흐른 매체들... 고서, 지도, 레코드판, 카세트테잎 등에 새로운 생명을 불어넣어 예술 작품으로 재탄생시키는 작품들을 선보이고 있습니다.

특히 그의 "책 조각"은 놀라울 따름입니다.

오래된 교과서, 백과사전, 어학사전, 의학서적, 역사서적 등을 소재로 사용합니다.

각 페이지를 조각하면서 책의 그림과 글자들을 하나의 작품이 되도록 완성해냅니다.

이렇게 조각된 책은 새로운 3차원의 입체 작품으로 탄생하게 되는군요...

그 많은 페이지들의 요소들을 하나씩 모아, 완성된 틀을 만들어가는 생각의 폭에 감탄하지 않을 수 없네요... 정말 대단합니다.

긴 설명보다는 그의 작품들을 많이 소개하고 싶습니다.

An artist and illustrator, Erin works at the cutting edge of traditional and
mixed media. Her love of drawing blends seamlessly with textures and montage
to create powerful and provocative images. Her subjects are often withdrawn,
on edge and detached from their surroundings, which adds to the mystery of
Erin’s work and contrasts its delicacy. Erin constantly experiments with media,
scale and reference in her work. You are likely to find tape, collage, magazine
clippings, and textiles in and amongst her pencil drawing and painting. At 24,
she belies her years. Commissions by Stella McCartney, Selfridges and Lascivious
have all come since graduating from Liverpool in 2004, whilst her illustration
has featured in Tank Magazine, Rojo, Tiger and Plastic Rhino. 4WALL highly
recommends seeing her work for real as its power comes from the textures
and the immediacy of her images. As her work tends to be smaller scale,
you will see if regularly on our Saturday Portobello Market stall.
